Coles has announced the hiring of Tony Buffin as their new Chief Financial Officer. He will claim the position vacated by Terry Bowen when he moved to the position of CFO of Coles owner Wesfarmers.

Mr Buffin joins the Coles business from his position as Executive Vice President and Managing Director of loyalty management firm Groupe Aeroplan. He had previously held the role of Chief Financial Officer at the company before taking over the MD role.

His knowledge of loyalty programs could prove invaluable as Coles looks into options of improving their FlyBuys rewards program.

Managing Director of Coles, Ian McLeod, said that Mr Buffin’s experience meant he was the right candidate for the important role, with Coles’ management team undergoing a major overhaul since the Wesfarmers purchase in 2007.

“Tony has extensive retail, finance and business development experience in the UK and Europe,” he reported. “I am confident he will make an outstanding contribution as part of the new management team towards the turnaround of Coles.”

He will begin in July this year.
