The growth in private label is likely to slow, although a shift in consumers’ loyalty from branded to own-label lines is “permanent”, according to European research. Burger King, the world’s second largest burger chain, has reported a 2 per cent sales decline in the fourth quarter on the back of a weaker US dollar. Research from America has discovered that the recession is adversely affecting consumers’ healthy eating behaviour.
