The award-winning Transport Hotel, home to one of Melbourne’s best restaurants – Taxi, is set to be sold by owners the Sovereign Hotel Group.

The Group announced their intention to sell today, with the Transport Hotel – including Taxi Dining Room and Transit Cocktail Lounge – and Feddish Bar and Restaurant all set to have new owners.

“The decision to capitalise on this investment will strategically position Sovereign Hotel Group to develop further growth opportunities with other assets that are currently becoming available to the market within the gaming sector,” Mario Scerri, Managing Director of the Sovereign Hotel Group, said.

Taxi, which has arguably the best location of any of Melbourne’s fine dining establishments with a few over the Yarra from Federation Square, is consistently rated among the city’s top ten restaurants and received two hats and the Wine List of the Year Award from The Age Good Food Guide last year.

The Federation Square businesses will be put up for tender tomorrow, with the tender closing on Thursday 25th February. Joint selling agents Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels & TJ Board & Sons will manage the tender process.

“Federation Square is a cultural landmark and entertainment destination of Melbourne, and the Sovereign Hotel Group’s businesses are expected to attract a lot of interest within the hospitality sector, as businesses like these are rarely offered to the market,” the Group added in a statement.
