Whole Foods Market has increased its sales and earnings per share forecasts for the 2011 fiscal year on the back of strong first-quarter results. The US health food retailer yesterday (9 February) increased its diluted EPS targetto US$1.76-1.8 a share, up on the $1.66-1.71 a share it previously forecast. UK grocery operator Waitrose has ended its contract with a duck farm accused of animal cruelty. Allegations emerged yesterday (8 February) that workers at Hall Farm picked up ducks by their necks and swung them before throwing them into the flock. A senior EU judge has said all food sold in the EU contaminated with even the slightest trace of genetically modified material must have a special regulatory approval. World food prices surged to a new historic peak in January, for the seventh consecutive month, according to the updated FAO Food Price Index, a commodity basket that regularly tracks monthly changes in global food prices.
