After five hours of judging, Lion Nathan’s Kosciuszko Pale Ale has been crowned Australia’s best beer at the Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show (RQFWS) Beer Competition in Brisbane today.

Kosciuszko Pale Ale beat 54 other beers to claim the title of Grand Champion Beer of Show and Champion Ale of Show, while Burleigh Brewing’s HEF and Blue Sky Brewery’s FNQ Lager were also awarded champion trophies.

RQFWS Beer Competition Chief Judge Ian Chant said a great standard had been achieved across the board this year.

“The number of gold medals awarded just goes to show the quality of beers on the market today”.

For beer competition judges, Kosciuszko beer ticked all the right boxes.

“It has a beautiful hoppy aroma and perfectly balanced flavours with a clean finish” said Mr Chant.

Now in its third year, the Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show is an initiative of the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA). Attracting around 20,000 entries per year, its individual competitions showcase the finest in Australian food, beer and wine.
