Perkii drink offers a lactose-free probiotic drink
The “Perkii” j=drink contains only 26 calories per serving but 1 billion live probiotics. It is currently being trialled in two Sydney Woolworths supermarkets and has the backing of Uniseed, a venture fund operated by Australian universities and the CSIRO.
Perkii is Uniseed’s largest investment as the venture fund aims to commercialise research.
The drink currently comes in three flavours, Lime and Coconut, Raspberry and Pomegranate and Elderflower and Green Tea. It has 1 billion live Lactobacillus casei LC431 probiotic and the drink’s website says it has been shown to help with digestion and immunity. The probiotics are kept alive in tiny natural beads called Microgels. Perkii is 85 per cent water with a small amount of juice added for natural flavour.
Perkii’s website says it has “a long shelf life” and contains “natural colours and flavours”.
The drink is already sold in a number of Queensland based cafes, IGA supermarkets and gyms. Uniseed is expecting the product to be selling across Australia by early 2016.
