IGA has announced its latest marketing move, revealing it is the major partner of a soon-to-released Australian film called THE BBQ.
THE BBQ tells the story of Darren ‘Dazza’ Cook, a man who finds his passion for cooking BBQ’s pulled into the spotlight when he competes at an international barbecue festival.
Darren ‘Dazza’ Cook is played by long-time IGA ambassador, Shane Jacobson. The film also includes characters play by Australian actor Magda Szubanski, media personality Julia Zemiro and celebrity chef, Manu Feidel.
An IGA store in the Melbourne suburb of Mt Waverley features heavily in the movie.
IGA’s partnership with THE BBQ includes a shopper competition, giving customers the chance to win a BBQ for up to 50 people hosted by Shane Jacobson.
IGA customers will also have the opportunity to win one of a 1, 000 Webber BBQ’s and one of 2, 000 double passes to see the movie.
Steven Cain, Chief Executive Officer of Metcash, IGA’s parent company, said Metcash was excited to be a part of THE BBQ.
“Having Shane Jacobson as IGA’s brand ambassador and Julia Zemiro feature as an IGA Store Manager in the movie feels like a natural partnership for the IGA brand,” Cain said.
Co-Producer of the film, Deb Fryers, said THE BBQ team was delighted to have IGA as a partner.
“The Aussie barbie is a cornerstone of our culture,” Fryers said.
“It’s the place where family, friends and the local community come together and as IGA is renowned for supporting its local communities, it’s a perfect fit.”
THE BBQ will be released into more than 150 cinemas Australia-wide on Thursday 22 February 2018.
