New study finds many rice varieties are low-to-medium GI

New research from Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) has found that rice can help maintain a healthy, low glycemic index (GI) diet, even for diabetes sufferers. The study was published in a recent issue of online peer-reviewed biomedical science journal, Rice. Australian Government announces first round of carbon farming grants

The Australian Government has today announced the first round of its A$99 million ‘Action on the Ground’ program to support farmers as they adjust to Australia’s new carbon tax regime. Action on the Ground is funding farmers over the next six years to trial and demonstrate on-farm practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as methane and nitrous oxide or increase soil carbon.
