Sweetener use in formulated foods on the rise in the US

New US research from the University of North Carolina has found that 75 per cent of formulated foods contain sweeteners, raising health concerns with the study authors. The study published in the recent addition of The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics analysed 85,451 formulated foods, finding that 68 per cent use caloric sweeteners. Sanitarium beaten by the little guy in “Granola” trademark battle

Irrewarra Sourdough Bakery, a small business located between Geelong and Colac, has won its case in the Federal Court against food giant Sanitarium over use of the term “granola”. Reportedly, in late May 2012, cafes around Victoria had received a letter from Sanitarium’s lawyers to desist from usage of the word “granola”.
