Nestlé has launched a new addition to its Kit Kat range, the Kit Kat Chunky3, which features the brand’s signature wafer, topped with three breakable chunks containing three separate textures – fudge, crisp and sauce. UK Fairtrade sales top 1 billion pounds

Sales of Fairtrade products have bucked the recession in the UK, rising by 40% and topping the GBP 1 billion mark for the first time.As it launched Fairtrade Fortnight, the Fairtrade Foundation reported that sales of Fairtrade products rose by 40% in 2010 to an estimated retail value of GBP1.17bn. Nestle to switch local Kit Kats to UTZ cocoa

All Kit Kats sold in Australia will next year be made using UTZ-certified cocoa, brand owner Nestle has announced.UTZ cocoa is already used in the four-finger Kit Kats on sale in Australia but Nestle has pledged to switch all of the brand’s SKUs to the certified cocoa during next year. Worldwide Fairtrade sales hit $5.4 billion

Despite an economically difficult year, sales of fairtrade products have been roaring, with consumers around the world spending around AU$5.4 billion on Fairtrade products in 2009 – a 15% increase over 2008. Australian and New Zealand consumers were a particularly strong market, increasing their Fairtrade shopping by 58%, compared to 14% in the UK and 7% in the US. Nestlé goes Fairtrade with iconic Kit Kat

Nestlé has announced that their four-finger Kit Kat bar will be certified by Fairtrade in yet another sign that the Fairtrade movement is becoming mainstream. The company has so far committed to certifying the brand as Fairtrade in the United Kingdom and Ireland but, like Cadbury with their Dairy Milk brand, it may extend beyond British borders. The UK arm of Swiss food giant Nestle has remained silent on reports that it is in talks to obtain Fairtrade certification for its Kit Kat chocolate bars.
