A report by Sydney based The George Institute for Global Health, released yesterday, says that despite the government’s Food and Health Dialogue, salt levels in Australian bread products have not changed since 2007. Bread has recently become a target for sodium reduction, with one fifth of daily salt intake for Australians coming through bread, and daily salt intake between five and 10 times that required for good health. Tip Top rejects claims of fractured relationships with vendors

Tip Top has disputed comments made by the Queensland State Secretary of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) indicating that Tip Top vendors were not being adequately compensated in the wake of rising costs and were overburdened by their supply chain partners. Brisbane supermarkets advised to stack their own bread shelves

The possible strike in Queensland by Tip Top vendors is on the back burner for the time being, as truck drivers instead instruct Coles and Woolworths to stack their own shelves in Brisbane. Currently, vendors for Tip Top Bakeries, who own the Sunblest, Up, 9-Grain and Tip Top brands, usually take the bread into Coles and Woolworths stores, refill the shelves and take old bread back to their depot. Industrial action proposed by Tip Top truck vendors could have an extensive impact on Brisbane’s bread supply if it goes ahead.
