Kraft files over Oreo copyright in India

Kraft Foods has filed a lawsuit against India’s leading biscuit manufacturer, Britannia Industries, over an alleged infringement of the copyright on its Oreo biscuit brand. Kraft confirmed yesterday that it has filed a suit in the Delhi High Court, seeking an injunction and damages for “infringement of trademark and copyright, passing off and unfair competition” of its Oreo brand of cookies. Whiskas Purple to become registered trademark

Mars Australia has been given the go-ahead by the Federal Court to register Whiskas Purple as a trademark for cat food, after rival Nestlé withdrew its earlier opposition. Justice Annabelle Claire ordered that the application should proceed to registration, noting that Mars Australia has used the Whiskas Purple colour here since 2000. The Full Federal Court of Australia has unanimously dismissed an appeal by Mars Australia, makers of Maltesers against a rival confectionery product. Apple looks to block Woolworths’ trademark application

Technology giant Apple is looking to prevent Woolworths from using their new logo, arguing it resembles the Apple trademark. Woolworths launched the rebranding early this year with a logo they contend to be a stylised ‘w’ that looks like a piece of peeling fruit.
