UK Farmers call for greater retailer responsibility amid claims of aggressive tactics

With Britain facing its sharpest economic downturn in 30 years, the National Farmers Union (NFU) is calling on the country’s largest retailers to take the lead in a new approach to corporate social responsibility, which would see fair pricing for both customers and suppliers put at the heart of their retail policy. UK food industry rivals share delivery costs

In a move believed to be a world first, 37 of the UK’s leading food and consumer goods companies yesterday announced a major transport collaboration that will significantly reduce the environmental impact of transporting food and groceries in the UK. UK summit tackles spiralling food prices

A summit, headed by UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, has discussed concerns about rising global food prices. The summit was attended by 25 experts including UN World Food Program Chief Josette Sheeran, African Development Bank Chief Donald Kaberuka, the UK’s chief scientist and environmental and international development ministers.
