WA grown oysters off the Christmas menu

ABC news service has reported that Western Australian grown oysters “will be off the menu this Christmas due to a harmful bacteria”. WA’s only aquaculture oyster producer is Ocean Foods International in Albany. According to its Farm Director Gareth James, the shellfish have ingested the E Coli bacteria, which has washed into waterways due to recent heavy rainfall, and are therefore not fit to eat for this Christmas. WA Government offer free iApp for Shoppers

A free smartphone app, developed by the Western Australian State government agency Consumer Protection and called iShopWA, is now available for shoppers in the State of Western Australia to easily access information about their rights under the new Australian Consumer Law. Honey production in Western Australia is down more than half this year, compared with last year, after honeybees were affected by recent drought conditions. The University of Western Australia’s Professor Boris Baer said beekeepers should not expect their bees to produce honey. NASAA respond to WA GM contamination

NASAA have confirmed reports that longstanding WA grower, Steve Marsh, has recently been the victim of GM contamination despite his best efforts to avoid it. WA chicken meat Act to expire

The Chicken Meat Industry Act 1977 will expire at the end of the year, Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman announced today. The decision follows a recent inquiry by the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) which recommended the Act should not be continued.
