Hellmann’s mayonnaise goes cage-free
America’s most popular mayonnaise brand, Hellmann’s, yesterday announced that it would convert US production of its Hellmann’s Light product to use cage-free eggs.
The mayonnaise, production of which accounts for around 1.5 million kilograms of eggs a year, will convert to using American Humane Certified eggs, which require producers to meet criteria for animal health and welfare as well as banning the use of battery cages.
Once a “certifiable and consistent supply” becomes available in North America, Hellman’s, owned by food giant Unilever, plans to convert all its mayonnaise products to cage-free ingredients.
