Weak Australian profit fails to stop Heinz beating estimates

The H.J. Heinz Company, one of the world’s largest food manufacturers, has reported a 4.5 per cent lift in sales in the first quarter, after stripping out the negative impact of currency movements. AFGC concerned by detail in “Made in Australia” Bill

A Bill introduced to the Senate yesterday by Independent Senator Nick Xenophon to alter Australia’s food labelling laws could make it harder for Australian Made products to compete, according to the Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC). The proposed legislation seeks to change laws to only allow the word “Australian” to be used on products if they are 100 per cent produced in Australia. Hormel Foods reports 33 per cent profit surge

Hormel Foods, the maker of SPAM, has seen operating profit rise 33 per cent in the third quarter compared to last year despite a 4 per cent decline in volumes. Organic loyalty strong but growth tempered by downturn

New research from the UK has discovered nearly one in five (19%) shoppers are loyal to organic food and beverages and are maintaining their expenditure despite cost pressures.The research, from grocery industry think-tank IGD, noted that a further 9 per cent plan to buy more organic food when they have a bit more money to spend. Wesfarmers has announced a net profit after tax of $1.535 billion – up 44 per cent – as their Coles turnaround gathers momentum.
