Golden Circle apologise after labelling blunder
Fruit and vegetable manufacturers Golden Circle has apologised for out-dated labelling, packaging and advertising that still state Golden Circle is “Proudly Australian Owned”. The company was acquired by US company Heinz last year.
Earlier this year Golden Circle donated more than 800,000 cans of Golden Circle fruit and vegetables to Australian welfare agencies in response to concerns raised by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) about the misleading country ownership claims.
The company has made a statement to say they are now working on updating material.

Apologies from Heinz are nonsense. How long does it take to change packaging, Heinz paid the GC Co-operative owners a discounted price when they bought GC on 13 November 2008. AUSBUY wrote to the ACCC from January 2009 about the issue and now 17 months later we get all these apologies and consumers at point of sale still think GC is Australian. Heinz has made $M out of this deception and giving away cans of food writtne off before tax means Australian tax payers are footing the bill – yet again. After more then six letters to the ACCC we are still waiting for a formal response about this matter.
