PERKii launches non-fermented Sparkling Probiotic Drink into 700 Coles Supermarkets to compete with kombucha

Australian probiotic technology brand PERKii is excited to launch its new 100% plant-based, non-fermented Sparkling Probiotic Drinks into over 700 Coles Supermarkets nationally. This comes just a few months after the rollout of 2 flavours into Coles Express.
PERKii’s non-fermented Sparkling Probiotic Drink is bottled with 1 billion plant-based probiotics, blended with natural flavours and only 45 calories per serve.
First developed at the University of Queensland, PERKii’s point of difference is its Targeted Release Probiotics, micro-shielded to resist stomach acid up to 10,000x stronger than non micro-shield probiotics, for a targeted release in the gut. Recent studies found around half of all probiotic consumers (49%) were conscious of the detrimental effect stomach acids can have on living probiotics.
The Coles launch includes 2 natural sparkling flavours – Watermelon, Mint Cucumber and Ginger Kick – which will sit in the chilled aisles as a popular non-fermented alternative to kombucha.
“At PERKii our mission is to make our unique probiotic technology available to as many consumers as possible”. PERKii Head of Sales Carl Ryan says. “What we have found is a growing demand for non-fermented alternatives within the sparkling functional drinks space.
Our patented micro-shield technology not only equips our probiotics to resist stomach acid and survive the journey to the gut, but also means we can offer natural, non-bitter flavours which is super exciting.”
PERKii Sparkling contains the plant-based probiotic Bifidobacterium, a highly studied and highly documented probiotic strain.
Developed at the University of Queensland, PERKii’s micro-shield technology is designed to protect probiotics against harmful acids as they travel through the stomach. Once in the lower intestine, the probiotic is released from its micro-shield and attaches to the intestinal wall, where it proliferates.
Carl says the increased demand for non-fermented products in the functional and specifically the probiotic category has had an incredible impact on the recent fast growth across the PERKii brand. “We get messages from customers saying how refreshing it is to find a drink that tastes as good as our range does including our new Sparkling, with the added benefits of our targeted release probiotics.”
PERKii’s Probiotic Drinks are currently sold in Coles, Woolworths, Coles Express, Caltex, Zambrero and independent supermarkets nationally.
