The organisation representing Coeliac Disease sufferers in Australia is advocating the Australian government revise the “Gluten Free” standard in Australia. A recent national survey conducted by the Australian Food Safety Information Council has shown 8 percent of adult workers and an alarming 20 percent of children who take a packed lunch to work or school, make no attempt to keep their lunches cool. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today announced that oranges and orange juice sold in Australia will not be permitted to contain any carbendazim, after it was announced that existing permissions would be revoked in the first quarter of 2012. The moves follows concerns raised after the US Food and Drug Administration detected trace amounts of carbendazim in orange juice imported from Brazil. Almost one-third of adults over the age of 25 have a Vitamin D deficiency, a new study from the University of Melbourne has found. The study involved 11,218 Australians. The overall prevalence of vitamin D deficiency was 31 per cent, with Australian women being more commonly affected (39 per cent, in contrast with 23 per cent in Australian men, overall).
