Woolworths shoppers help raise over $7m for Aussie farmers
Woolworths Backing Our Farmers day was held on Friday 20 February 2009, with all profits directed toward Australian farmers via the Country Women’s Association.
The profit for the day from Woolworths’ 792 supermarkets was $7,065,546, comfortably surpassing the target of $5 million and bringing the total raised in the three years the day has been held to over $17 million.
Woolworths advised that the calculation has been independently audited by Deliotte Touche Tohmatsu, with the full amount to be given to the Country Women’s Association to assist rural communities.
The CWA will distribute the funds to farming families, with a third of the money raised provided to Landcare – an organisation which is helping farmers manage their operations in a more sustainable way in the face of a long-term drought.
