Taco Bill Mexican restaurant in South Melbourne, Victoria has won the overall national I Love FOOD Awards 2010, run by cable network Lifestyle FOOD, for Australia’s favourite place to eat out.

Voted by Lifestyle FOOD viewers and the Australian public, the online poll allowed diners to choose their favourite restaurants across 26 cuisines. Around 100,000 voters participated this year, with voting results going into Lifestyle FOOD’s annual Eat Out Guide.

Taco Bill has won the award for Australia’s Favourite Mexican restaurant twice, in 2007 and 2009. This year, in addition to Favourite Mexican Restaurant, Taco Bill took the top spot overall.

“Winning the overall award is a huge honour. We are extremely happy because this accolade shows us that our Australian customers appreciate our fun, fresh and affordable Mexican cuisine and the passion we demonstrate in our restaurant on a daily basis,” said Taco Bill Director Stan Teschke.

Taco Bill sees the result as evidence of a continuing trend for Mexican cuisine in Australia,  and plans to grow with the demand, with five new restaurants set to open nationally over the next year in metro and regional areas.
