State of Victoria planning permit reforms bring ALDI to Mentone
Aldi will be opening in Mentone Victoria with the supermarket attributing the store to the introduction of state government planning reforms.
The 2013 reforms enabled rezoning of industrial areas for commercial development. Aldi says it is the reason why the supermarket will be able to open in the Mentone Centre by the end of October 2015.
“Aldi is delighted to be bringing our unique offering to Mentone,” an ALDI Australia spokesperson said.
“By encouraging development in new areas, the reforms have helped increase competition, which ultimately means better value for shoppers,” the spokesperson stated.
Mentone is not the only Victorian store opened since the reforms were introduced. A Cheltenham Aldi was opened in October 2014 along with Altona North and new stores are expected iin Dromana, Springvale, Traralgon, Epsom Village and Wendouree.
“ALDI Cheltenham has become very popular with the local community. We are excited to be establishing in neighbouring Mentone, as we know there is also a strong appetite among residents for an alternative place to shop,” an ALDI Australia spokesperson said.
The Mentone store will be approximately 1000m2 in retail size and will employ 15-20 staff. It will be open seven days a week, 8:30am – 8:00pm.
