Aldi has taken home the highest number of supermarket wins at the 2018 Product of the Year Awards.

Winning 13 category titles, Aldi had just one more win than Coles which took home 12 awards.

Each year, the Product of the Year Awards judge different items sold in Australia to find the best product in a number of different categories. For the 2018 awards, 13, 000 Australians were surveyed by Nielsen to help determine the winning products.

According to Nielsen’s research, Coles provides the best shopping environment and experience over all retailers. Shoppers also voted Coles as being the first to have new products and as having the most appealing home brands.

Aldi scored highly in providing good deals whilst Woolworths scored better in offering fresh and healthy products.

Product of the Year Director, Sarah Connelly, said retailers are today creating high quality home brands which are value for money.

“We’ve also seen a lot of winning products which are made in Australia with local ingredients,” Connelly said.

Key research findings from Product of the Year 2018

• Two in five consumers say they would definitely or probably buy a new product if it won product of the Year
• Younger consumers are more likely to buy products with the Product of the Year logo than older consumers
• Women are more likely to buy a Product of the Year winning product over men
• Nearly half of shoppers think it is harder to find their favourite brands on shelves compared with a year ago
• Good value for money is the most important factor when grocery shopping
