Market leader gives insights into the sweets category

PEOPLE’S expectations of desserts are continually being lifted. Consumers are now increasingly looking for more sophisticated and indulgent creations, writes Anand Surujpal, general manager of marketing and innovation at Patties Foods.
When choosing to indulge in desserts, consumers are looking for offers that are ‘worth it’, to justify the extra treat.
With changing family dynamics and lifestyles, Australians are having fewer sit down family meal times, which means fewer traditional dessert occasions.
This has meant that there’s more opportunity for sweet consumption during the day and less reliance on an after-dinner sweet ‘fix’.
When entertaining, dessert is often a challenge to get right for guests, so Australians look for dinner party worthy solutions to make their life easier in the kitchen.
What’s working with Nanna’s (Patties Foods Ltd.)
Retailers are telling food makers to re-invigorate a category that hasn’t been active in some time. Nanna’s Indulgent Collection Mini Crèmes is Patties Foods response to these requests.
Based on consumer insights over the last 12 months, we have found that portioned, frozen sweets and desserts are providing the convenience and permissibility that consumers desire. Frozen products that are convenient to store, prepare and serve have been performing well due to the low-time commitment and ease of preparation.
What’s the next trend innovation?
Another insight that is important to Nanna’s right now is tapping into current flavour trends locally and globally and incorporating such influences into the supermarket freezer for consumers.
How Nanna’s Indulgent Collection Crèmes deliver for the category
Nanna’s Indulgent Collection Mini Bites is filling a gap for people looking to indulge at home, including, the dinner party host, the romantics and the lover of desserts.
