Alcohol levy idea gathers momentum
It appears that the suggestion that a small levy should be added to alcohol prices has garnered some community support. Galaxy Research conducted a survey of 1000 Australians for the Government-funded publication Substance with more than half indicating they support the idea. The proceeds from the levy, suggested to be about five or ten cents by the Australian National Council on Drugs, would be used to finance further alcohol education campaigns and provide greater support services.
