Privately owned agribusiness company Craig Mostyn Group (CMG) has acquired the fresh pork business of George Weston Foods, Watsonia.

CMG Chief Executive, David Lock, said the company was looking to strengthen their PPC/Linley Valley Fresh brand.

“We are 100 per cent committed to our fresh pork business, with all our pork sourced from WA producers,” Mr Lock said. “I’m delighted this has now culminated in our purchase of the fresh pork assets and business of George Weston Foods/Watsons Foods, which had already announced in July that it would be closing its smallgoods operation in Spearwood.”

George Weston, a diversified food manufacturer, is also the owner of smallgoods manufacturer of Don KRC which announced a cutback of operations earlier this year. The cutback included the winding down of production at the Spearwood facility in WA by April 2009, which manufactured Watsonia products – among others.

From November 7, CMG will own and manage George Weston’s 4000 sow piggery – ‘Wandalup Farms’, some equipment from the Spearwood facility and its production contracts with grow-out units around WA.
