Houghton again scoops top honour at WA Wine Show
The Houghton Wine Company has been recognised as the Best Wine of the Show at the prestigious QANTAS Wine Show of Western Australia.
The awards, now in their 31st year, judges the best of the WA wine industry. The judging panel is led by respected wine critic and wine writer James Halliday and senior judge Vanya Cullen.
Houghton’s took the honour for the second year running with their 2007 Wisdom Chardonnay. The Wisdom Chardonnay also claimed the Portavin Trophy for Best White Wine.
“The 2007 chardonnay class was very strong,” Ms Cullen said, according to AAP. “I think Houghtons are doing fantastic things with their white wines, and their chardonnays in particular.” The WA 2007/08 vintage had produced excellent quality wine with more depth of flavour than in recent years, Ms Cullen added.
The Australia Post Trophy for the Best Red at the show went to Flametree Wines for their 2007 Margaret River Cabernet Merlot, while the ANZ Corporate Banking Trophy went to Evans & Tate for being the most successful exhibitor over all classes.
