Winner of Melbourne’s Ultimate Job announced
Melbourne’s Ultimate Job has been filled and the best candidate came from within.
Simon Cant was formally appointed Treasury Wine Estates Fine Wine Ambassador today after an extensive recruitment process that saw more than 100 candidates progress through the initial selection process.
The Fine Wine Ambassador Role was recently voted as Melbourne’s Ultimate Job by the people of Melbourne in the Drake International Ultimate Job Campaign.
Simon has been working with the Foster’s Wine Business for the past five years. He joined the business as the Wine Specialist for NSW and relocated to Melbourne 15 months ago to become Category Manager for On Premise. His experience in the wine sector spans 17 years; he has run several of Australia’s top fine wine retailers, written wine reviews for industry publications, judged on the show circuit and conducted wine education courses. He has also tried his hand at making wine during his many visits to the wine regions of Australia, including a full vintage spent in the Barossa Valley.
In announcing the appointment, Treasury Wine Estates Managing Director Australia and New Zealand, David Dearie said:
“Simon has considerable experience within the wine sector and is always passionate in his approach and about our industry. These things considered, he was an obvious choice for Melbourne’s Ultimate job.”
“In his new role as Fine Wine Ambassador, Simon will focus on building the appreciation and distribution of the Treasury Wine Estates brand portfolio,” David said.
“He will work closely with George Samios, Treasury Wine Estates Global Wine Ambassador to build long-lasting relationships with influential consumers, key decision makers in high-end restaurants, principal retail and corporate clients and leading wine industry groups. ”
Speaking about his appointment, Simon said:
“I love working with the brands of Treasury Wine Estates and I am delighted to be presented with this opportunity. Wine is my passion and this role will allow me to share this passion with colleagues, customers and consumers. A lot of people may say they have Melbourne’s Ultimate Job but few have the backing of Melbourne. “
