Crust now selling jackfruit pizza
RFG’s Crust Pizza is now selling a new pizza featuring jackfruit.
The Crust ‘BBQ Pulled Jackfruit’ pizza includes smoky BBQ pulled jackfruit, spanish onion, roasted capsicum, a tomato base, vegan aioli, parsley and chopped chilli.
It is another completely vegan offering, adding to the trend of Australian quick-service-restaurants offering more vegan menu items.
Crust said the pizza follows on from its first vegan pizza it launched in 2016.
General Manager of Crust, Renee North, said jackfruit contains hundreds of seeds which are rich in protein, making it a good meat substitute.
“The jackfruit has made its way through vegan and vegetarian communities with its ability to imitate slow cooked meats such as pulled pork, and offers the satiation of meat without the actual animal protein,” she said.
Crust Pizza is part of the Retail Food Group (RFG) which is responsible for a large portfolio of QSR’s operating in Australia including Pizza Capers, Donut King, Gloria Jeans, Di Bella Coffee and Michele’s Patisserie.
