Show medals for curry paste newbies

PROVING Royal Agricultural Society shows are more these days than judging sponge cakes, the maker of an Indian and Asian food range – Turban Chopsticks – have come away with eight medals from two shows so far this year.

The newcomer’s Thai Green Curry paste won a silver medal at the Australia Food Awards, managed by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria. Their Thai Red Curry, Butter Chicken and Satay Peanuts Sauces each took bronze at the same awards.

And at this year’s Royal Agricultural Society of Perth show, the WA-based producers won another four medals, the same result, with another silver for Thai Green Curry and bronze again for each of the Thai Red Curry, Butter Chicken, and Satay Peanuts.

Each year the societies call on producers to enter their pantry goods section, giving emerging businesses a chance to benchmark products and establish credentials.

Director of Turban Chopsticks Mei Yong said the young company had also notched success by being stocked across Australia at IGAs, select Woolworths supermarkets and specialised grocery stores.

“We are all about creating really good honest food. Nourishing, exotic curry pastes and wholesome, nutritious meal kits, all handmade locally in Perth,” said Ms Yong.

“We make all our product ranges with fresh local produce.

“We develop recipes that are authentic to the real kitchen flavours of India and Asia that you can bring back to your own kitchens, and we believe in offering deliciousness for all people with gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, diabetic-friendly and allergen-friendly dietary needs.”
