Alcohol loading comet in space could hold the secret to life
Scientists have discovered that a comet within our solar system is generating both Ethyl alcohol and a simple sugar called glycolaldehyde.
Named ‘Lovejoy’, the comet is currently creating alcohol equal to at least 500 bottles of wine every second at its peak.
Ethyl alcohol today is used in antiseptics, engine fuel and household heating.
While Glycolaldehyde is not considered a true sugar, it is the simplest of sugar-related molecules.
The latest research adds to the evidence that comets carry the ingredients that spark the creator of life in our solar system.
