Australian supermarket chain Coles has apologised to customers who thought they had found a bargain yesterday when two beer lines were inadvertently listed with the wrong price on its online shopping website. 24-bottle slabs of Coopers Sparkling Ale, which Coles usually sell for A$53.99 each, and 24-bottle slabs of James Squire Golden Ale, normally listed on the website at A$54.99, were listed with a price of just A$15.99. Coopers sees beer sales climb to record high

Independent South Australian-based brewer Coopers has reported “exceptional growth” in interstate sales over the second half of calendar year 2009, leading to a record result for the year. And the company is confident momentum will continue into the new year, predicting sales will top 60 million litres for the first time. South Australian brewer, Coopers Brewery, has announced sales growth of 5 per cent in the 2008-09 financial year, bringing turnover to $169 million. Profit after tax also rose, albeit by a small margin, to $20.3 million from $20.2 million the previous year. Total sales volume for beer rose by 1%, led by a 6.3% increase in sales outside Coopers’ home markets of South Australia and the Northern Territory. Australian-owned Coopers Brewery is not letting the economic downturn restrict a $6m plan to install new production equipment at its Regency Park brewery, which could see them contract brew international beers.
