Bakers Delight gears up for Easter ‘Bundraising’

Bakers Delight is set to put the ‘bun’ into fundraising this Easter, with bakers across Australia and New Zealand preparing to bake over 520,000 fresh hot cross buns on Saturday 9 April, to raise money for sick children at hospitals across the country.

‘Bundraiser’ Day will see all 630 Bakers Delight bakeries nationwide donate $1 from every six-pack of hot cross buns sold to raise over $128,000 to purchase essential medical equipment for the hospitals.

Bakers Delight’s support in Victoria will be put towards the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal and enable the hospital to purchase a Rotem Thromboelastograph – a piece of state-of-the-art equipment used in cardiac surgery as a diagnostic tool for transfusions, and essential for better patient outcomes, just like in the case of three-year-old Ben Jackson.

Ben, an ongoing intensive care patient, has a heart condition known as tricuspid valve dysplasia and recently underwent heart surgery. Use of this equipment means more targeted transfusions and consequently less transfusions overall.

Christine Unsworth, CEO of the Good Friday Appeal, said: “It is fantastic to have the support of Bakers Delight and their customers. The contribution from Bundraiser Day will enable the hospital to install updated medical technology to benefit young patients with serious heart conditions.

“This equipment has a very big name – a Rotem Thromboelastograph – however this matches the very big task this diagnostic tool has to perform. Little Ben was just 3 years old when he underwent heart surgery and he is just one of many children who will benefit from the use of this amazing technology. It is a great step forward for patients.”

Chris Caldwell, General Manager at Bakers Delight added: “With over 165 million hot cross buns fresh baked across the network over the past 31 years, Easter is by far our busiest time of the year. It’s a great opportunity to give back to hospitals across the country and make a difference in the lives of children just like Ben.

“We’re hoping to surpass our Bundraiser fundraising effort from last year and we’ll be busy baking to achieve that. We encourage all our customers to make their hot cross bun purchase count on April 9.”

Nationally, hospitals set to benefit from Bakers Delight’s fundraising efforts include:
