New Dairy Food Safety Victoria board appointed
Victoria’s Agriculture and Food Security Minister Peter Walsh on 5 October 2012 announced the appointment of three new members to the board of dairy food safety regulator Dairy Food Safety Victoria. Victoria is Australia’s leading State in dairy production by volume and by value. Dairy Food Safety Victoria (DFSV) is the independent regulator of Victoria’s dairy industry and ensures national food safety standards are met by licensing all dairy premises operating in the State and approves and ensures compliance with food safety programs.
The new DFSV board members are Peter Bailey, Robert Greenall, and Peter Moloney , who now join the re-appointed Zoe Attwood, Barry Lierich and Margaret Darton.
“Dairy Food Safety Victoria plays a pivotal role in providing confidence to local and international customers of the safety and nutritional value of all our dairy foods and products,” Mr Walsh said.
“Milk is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, particularly calcium, and has long been recognised for its important role in bone health. Nutritionists recommend that milk and other dairy products should be consumed daily as part of a balanced diet,” the Minister said.
“I am confident that under the chairmanship of Grant Davies, Dairy Food Safety Victoria will continue to meet its core objective of ensuring standards, which safeguard public health, are maintained in the Victorian dairy industry. Each of the new board members are excellent choices to lead Dairy Food Safety Victoria thanks to their impressive industry, health and governance experience,” he said.
Mr Peter Bailey has over 30 years’ experience working in animal biosecurity, animal welfare and food safety and has held several board positions including Deputy Chair of the Victorian Meat Authority from 1993 to 2003.
