Nestlé to phase out the Polly Waffle

Unique Australian chocolate bar, the Polly Waffle, is to be axed by maker Nestlé.

Nestlé confirmed yesterday that production of the marshmallow-filled bar would cease after this year’s recipe reformulation failed to ignite sales.

“It’s costing more to produce than what we get back in sales,” Nestlé’s Fran Hernon said, according to the Herald Sun.

“Everybody says they love the Polly Waffle but the truth is no one buys it today. The time for it has been and gone.”

New products introduced by the food manufacturing giant have eroded sales of the Polly Waffle, Ms Hernon added.

I am sad to see that nestle will stop producing the polly waffle!!! In the article published today the spokesperson said that not enough sales is the reason for
it being discontinued, but I have always had problems finding a supplier. But when I did I would always buy one for now and one for later.
The best thing with polly waffles is that there is just enough of everything, chocolate, waffle, and marshmallow. I have a sweet tooth but I try to not indulge too much as I get older, and a polly waffle was my treat!!!!
    Please reconsider!!

Maybe Nestle might change their mind as the Polly Waffle is sold out due to this decision plus I am one that didn’t know they had recently upgraded it with a new wafer. I was lucky as I got the last 2 from my store and I must admit it’s a winner as I have not bought one since I was a child at the ekka in 1966 or so.

Come on Nestles you just need a trendy add to kick this great product into today I haven’t see any adds telling us of the great new Polly Waffle.

My husband loves Pollywaffle but it is alway hard to find – when we do, we buy at least 10 – locally we pay $2.19 ea. Less and less shops had them for sale so we looked for them when away, bought the last few where we could – asked some of our regular shops to stock them but they said they couldn’t get them in. So I guess the phase out happened ages ago and this is just the official announcement. My husband didn’t notice anything different about the “new” Pollywaffle.

    Bring it back please!

Oh dear, does that mean there are no polly waffles left in the shops ? I am here from the UK and my australian friend specially asked for me to bring back a few polly waffles for her. I am staying in Swanbourne….any suggestions ?

Sounds like Nestles suffers from too much waffle. The polly waffle should be made in the snack size like many other chocolates are in multi packs.
    Give it another go!!!

No wonder nobody’s buying the new ones. They aren’t as nice.
My Mum used to love them so much, but the last time we bought her one she couldn’t even finish it.
I wonder why nestle felt it was necessary to change the recipe in the first place?
In any case, pollywaffles will be surely missed.

I am both saddened and extremely disappointed. There are many products for companies that do not make a lot of money when looked at in their self, say for example a company has a sales department and an I.T department. The IT department is never making any money, and is always a cost, so just get rid of it? It does not make sense, surely the actual product itself (if you do not count the time involved in coming up with a new formula) is made for less than it sells?

The actual time a companies invests in producing a product is never actually lost, it may take additional time to recoup the cost of research and everything, but this just means the product needs to be sold for longer, not less. The way I see it, with all the support for the Polly Waffle evident, it would make sense to bring it back ‘for the last time’ and maybe include in the marketing that its back by demand.

Also I agree with other comments, when I have actually seen it, I have bought it. I can only assume that the suppliers had not been offering it, or it had not been stocked due to some poor KPI? Maybe its cause and effect reversed. Take for example a product sales decrease, is it because people are not buying it? Or is it because some statistics had been released saying that it under performs other products, and thus is not stocked and on-sold because of these stats.

I would rather give every product an equal opportunity to succeed, and I believe 100% this is supply chain related, and not related to peoples choice. Its been sold for 62 years, there must be some other factor like GFC (Global Financial Crisis)?

“Yesterday afternoon, a sealed box of 24 Polly Waffle bars listed for sale on eBay had received 12 bids, with the price at $112.50. ”
