Woolworths recruits supermarket chief – from Tesco
Woolworths Limited has recruited the current CEO of Tesco Malaysia as its new Director of Australian Supermarkets and Petrol.
Tjeerd Jegen, 40, has held store operations, commercial, marketing and general management roles with three leading international retailers in seven countries. He was Chief Operating Officer for Tesco Thailand before his appointment as CEO in Malaysia, in early 2010.
Woolworths Limited Deputy CEO Grant O’Brien said, “Whilst an external appointment might be viewed as an unusual one for Woolworths, Tjeerd is an exceptional retailer capable of adding significant value.”
Mr Jegen said, “There is a solid strategy in place to continue to grow this business and I look forward to working closely with my future team to help realise more of its untapped potential.”
Tjeerd Jegen will succeed Greg Foran who is leaving the business to pursue other interests and will take up his position following a release from his current contractual arrangements by the end of this calendar year.
